Just a couple of middle-class, middle-aged guys with young families

So it is written.

But getting the story right appears to require having the name Andrew.

Andrew Coyne: If there is anything less attractive than the anti-American streak in our national character — a trait made worse, one suspects, for our neighbours’ sunny indifference to our seething — it is our tendency to prostrate ourselves before American celebrities.

Andrew Potter: We are such ouinies.

And incidentally, that "Canadian delicacy," a "sugar-coated, deep-fried pastry called a Beavertail"?

I've never even heard of it before. Must be an Ontario thing.

Sounds tasty, mind you.

Actually, them beaverbits are pretty tasty but I have no idea about that "ObamaTail" monstrosity they concocted specially for the man.
It looks like the kind of treat my mum would say you invite your feller's mistress over to try coz there's no way in hell she's gonna look sexy trying to slurp one of those down.

A bakery that produced such delicacies in Nelson BC closed recently.

End of civilization as we know it.

This is a tragedy.

I understand you can get some of these things up at Mount Washington, though.

One lives in hope.

As to the 'beaver tail' thing, they have normally been sold as whale's tales in BC.

The actual pastry is a western Canadian thing coming from deep fried bannock (aka fry bread south of the border).

I have no idea how they ended up in Ontario and why they changed the name to beaver tails from bannock. In my conspiracy minded moments I assume it was done to erase the western history of the thing.

Well there it is. A form of bannock. Of course.

Best straight out of the pan, slathered with butter and blueberries.

I spent many lunch at band offices I have worked at eating fresh bannock with too much butter and jam for my own good.
